QTO and costing of single family houses for bid preparation  

• Start: May 2008
• Problem owner: Boligprodusentenes forening – Norwegian association for residental companies – on behalf of their members and the typical member organization is an Small and Medium sized Enterprise (SME).
• Problem focus: in early phase the member organizations are asked to provide bidding for many projects, few of which they will get an order for. Even a minor improvement of the cost estimation effectiveness for bid preparation, provides huge savings for the member organizations. All members have different home made systems that are difficult and costly to maintain. The problem is to transfer necessary QTO information from BIM to QTO/specification/ cost estimation systems to do cost estimates
• Solution: The involved systems are A) an architectural BIM system and B) a QTO/specification/costing system. harmonized with other similar efforts (Germany base quantities, AECOO, Statsbygg)
• Experience: 
  • Big interest among norwegian software developers (20-30 people)
  • Roof is challenging -> define best practice handling
