ECO-BUILD Project

Project: ECO-BUILD                                                                                                                                                                                     Project Title:  Specific Support Action for the Advancement and the Implementation of the Eco-Building Concept.
Contract Number:
Duration: October 2007 - March 2010
Project Website:  www.ecobuild-project.org
Co-ordinator:  ICCR, Austria
Client:  European Commission, DG Energy & Transport

Summary:  The aim of the ECO-BUILD project is to work towards a new approach for the design, construction and operation of new and/or refurbished buildings, which is based on the best combination of the double approach: to reduce/eliminate the demand for heating, cooling and lighting and replace with efficient/renewable alternatives.

The project provides policy makers and stakeholders with:

  • An overview of the internationally most advanced concepts and technologies for Eco-buildings,
  • Best practice solutions for implementing those concepts and
  • An assessment of the potential of and problems faced by different sets of policy measures adopted at the European and national levels.

The project goes beyond the requirements of existing legislation and thus contributes to a further development of regulatory issues in this sector.

Project Structure:
The ECO-BUILD project is divided into two parts:

  1. Documenting innovative and conceptual technologies for heating, cooling, and lighting.
  2. Implementation of those concepts through adequate policy measures at the European and national levels.
Workshops:  ECO-BUILD will organize three workshops and one final conference. Each of the workshops will be open for the participation of 40 experts and stakeholders ranging from architects and industry representatives to interest groups and NGOs. The final conference will be attended by 100 participants with a clear focus on European, national and regional policy makers.
